Gone are the days when couples had to make multiple trips to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate's (SDM) office just to retrieve a lost document. Today, the Government of Delhi allows you to easily verify and download a digital copy of your legally registered marriage certificate through the e-District portal.
1. Prerequisites for Downloading
Before you begin, ensure you have the following information readily available:
- The 14-digit Application Number (found on the acknowledgment slip you received during registration).
- Your Aadhaar number or Voter ID details.
- The exact Date of Birth of either the applicant or the spouse, as registered in the court application.
2. Step-by-Step Download Process
Follow these steps to generate your digital PDF certificate:
- Step 1: Visit the official Delhi Government portal at edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in.
- Step 2: Look for the "Print / Download Certificate" option on the main homepage.
- Step 3: In the drop-down menu for 'Department', select "Department of Revenue".
- Step 4: Under the 'Applied For' section, choose "Registration of Marriage".
- Step 5: Enter your 14-digit Application / Certificate Number and Date of Birth. Fill in the security captcha and click "Search".
3. Validity of the Digital Certificate
The PDF you download from the e-District portal is digitally signed by the issuing authority (the SDM). Under the IT Act, this digital certificate is completely legally valid and can be printed and used for official purposes, including passport applications, visa processes, and banking updates.
